An aspiring artist and hopeless romantic, Bernie’s daytime fantasies often get her in trouble, but lucky she has faithful companion Louie to guide the way, a well spoken genius border collie (voiced by Christopher Downs). Set in an alternate reality known as the Big City, Bernie works as a mail girl at the Trickett Press, the last surviving print magazine house in Australia.
Run by larrikin boss Glenn Trickett (Craig Mather), Glenn is a dinosaur of the past who can’t accept his ship is sinking - FAST! Unable to bring the Press into the modern age, Glenn hires hotshot new editor Adam Hunter (Christian Heath), tasking him to make online trash mag Shocka.com a hit with readers. Unfortunately, the dashing British stud is more focused on his own image.
The arrival of Adam also stirs up a rivalry with senior editor Polly Canaré (Constance Washington), a formidable feminist with an ambitious agenda, she is determined to see her new women’s magazine Pumper on supermarket racks. While budget cuts loom, the office slowly descends into chaos and Bernie develops an unhealthy obsession with Adam.
Things get more complicated when Bernie is promoted as Polly’s new assistant, finding herself in the middle of mayhem. With endless optimism, Bernie is determined to make the most of it, until the sudden appearance of her old high school nemesis, Apricot Pectin, stirs up a troubled past. As Bernie battles her way forward, the fantasies keep getting a whole LOT weirder!
